BetTeamsBattle - Kick bookmaker's ass

Recently I was in the hospital and by highly strange coincidence all my ward neighbours turned out to be passionate to betting (and it was not a gambling addiction clinic). This fact surfaced when one of the neighbours accidently (?) mentioned that he has recently hit a jackpot at one of bookmakers. After that all other topics for conversation have lost their chances.

Discussion of jackpots was not especially interesting to me: those three-digit coefficients are more about lottery than about bets. But at some point the discussion moved to betting as an alternative to bank deposits. After getting acquainted with positive experience of one of the neighbours, who has accumulated an interest many times more than what banks offer by only making bets strictly following recommendations of one analyst, I became interested in this. On the wave of interest to this question, I decided to create a small service which would unite professional analysts and also give everybody a possibility to compete with professionals on equal conditions. That is how betteamsbattle.com came to be.

Why Bet Teams Battle?

Initially I was sure that professional betting analysts are called brokers. However Google was insistently saying to me I am wrong, and Wikipedia while enumerating several tens of brokers types, doesn't mention bookmaker bets. A bit later I learned these guys are called handicappers or shortly cappers. But I had an impression this term is not very wide spread. To check this guess I conducted a small experiment, walking to the nearest bookmaker office after work, and as if accidently asking guys who hang out there all day (possibly despising Internet or something) whether they know what this word means. The answer was negative.

As a result, I decided to use a more abstract title Bet Teams Battle instead Of HandiCappers Battle. I am not sure whether this is a correct decision and I would be glad to hear your opinion about it in comments. By the way, the service is also available at two more addresses: handicappersbattle.com and cappersbattle.com and I still consider a possibility to make one of them the primary.

The idea of the project

User makes his or her bets within battle:

After a bet is opened, it appears in the list of bets:

After the event has occurred, its outcome has to be chosen.

Both at the moment of bet opening and at the moment of its closing the service takes a screenshot of bookmaker's web page which serves as a proof. Based on bets outcomes user statistics and total teams rating are built. That is all, in short.

It is less than one week till first battle. All this time I will talk to cappers and motivate them to participate. What will come out of this - we'll see in a week.

The source code of the project is open and hosted at Google Code. In this Google Group you can discuss things related to project developing. If you want to poke at me for shit code, you can do it in this thread, and in this thread you can join to development.

Nearest plans:
1. Working out types of battles
2. Working on simplification/automatization of bets opening and closing
3. Implementing user battles support
4. Improving statistics implementation

P. S. To make it possible to play with the project before the start of first battle, I have installed somewhat of a mirror at test.betteamsbattle.com.
